Heel veel goed nieuws!
Al langere tijd zijn we aan het dimdammen over hoe we onze doelgroep beter kunnen bereiken. KVTC is gebouwd voor kinderen/ jongeren die geen kans hebben. Ze zijn wees, komen uit een gebroken gezin of problematische thuis situatie. Armoede, mishandeling, alcohol misbruik en meestal een combinatie van al dat ongeluk zorgt ervoor dat zij en hun families verder gaan in dezelfde destructieve cirkel. Jong volwassenen die geen enkel uitzicht hebben op educatie en daardoor de kans lopen op dezelfde manier vast te draaien als hun ouders en generaties daarvoor. Meisjes die uitgehuwelijkt worden en of al jong moeten zorgen voor de rest van de familie. Jongens die de man van de familie moeten worden en moeten zorgen voor inkomen. Uitzichtloos. En dan hebben we het nog niet eens over jongeren met een beperkte handicap en jongeren met albinisme.
We kunnen niet iedereen bedienen maar we kunnen wel veel meer onze doelgroep bereiken en die druppel op de gloeiende plaat zijn.
Welnu daar is het volgende op gevonden. We gaan een nieuwe one year course ontwikkelen met een KVTC Certificate voor studenten die slechts de basisschool hebben afgerond tot maximaal een eerste level LBO/MBO. Zij gaan minder school fees betalen en we richten ons alleen op Day Scholars. Ze gaan in een jaar tijd opgeleid worden tot practical fundis met een klein beetje aanvullende lessen in leren lezen en schrijven in Kiswhali, rekenen, meten, veiligheid. We gaan daar 3 workshops voor bouwen voor minder dan 15 miloen TZ shilling (waarvoor funding gezocht!) en we gaan daar geen teachers maar Master Fundis voor aantrekken. Naast dat ze puur praktijkgericht opgeleid gaan worden, gaan ze productie draaien na een maand of 3/4. Dat betekent inkomsten voor de school. We gaan 3 workshops bouwen links en rechts van het toiletgebouw ooit bedacht voor tourism en we gaan zeker niet de eerste verdieping afbouwen nu die begroot is op 60 miljoen voor alleen het dormitory deel voor de jongens! Het bestaande toilet gebouw gaan we ombouwen en integreren als kantoor/ store voor de workshops.
Ik kan nu wel heel veel meer vertellen, liever stuur ik jullie de tekst (hieronder), een eerste concept van het plan. Die is wel in het Engels en overigens met groot enthousisme ontvangen in Tanzania. De uitwerking ervan vraagt meer tijd.
Soms is er het idee dat alle goede dingen tegelijk komen. En dat was zo in de afgelopen week dat Bert hier was. Laat ik hem ook eens noemen want wat hij voor elkaar krijgt bij hotshots, is ongelooflijk! Er volgt nog veel meer goed nieuws.
Maarrrr by far the best news is: WE WERE GRANTED FOR THE HYDROPONIC FOOD PROJECT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Het is echt waar; 50.000 USD for starting up the project. Wij zijn zo blij! We hebben een echte toekomst als school en nu ook als bedrijf. On- on- ongelooflijk ! Aan de slag wederom!

FUTURE MAP FOR KVTC
KVTC’s aim is fighting, eradicating poverty by creating chances through education for the most vulnerable people, e.g. orphans, minor disabled, special groups like albino’s and other special need groups. The area of attention is Kibosho and surroundings. Motivation to focus on Kibosho area and surroundings lies in KVTC’s other aim; to keep the community alive by creating and setting up small businesses and workshops for young people. To reach these goals KVTC uses Vocational Training Education whereby young people learn a skill, a trade.
With this map for the future we want to explain where we are standing now and where we should steer for the future.
Since January 2015 KVTC was focusing on having all our courses under VETA. In 2017 we have come to the conclusion that having the VETA courses (2-3 years) is not (completely) serving our target group/ population. Many students especially from Kibosho area reached education level Standard 7 maybe Form 2. For these students it is too difficult to get their certificate under VETA curriculum because of that level. Mathematics and especially English level is too weak to perform well in VETA standards and exams. Even reading writing in Kiswahili is sometimes difficult.
For the near future (start January 2018) we want to develop a unique KVTC one year course/ training where students are trained mainly practically, added by supporting subjects needed for their future jobs. E.g. reading, writing, calculating, measuring, workshop management etc. For this one year course we want to focus on Day Scholars and the school fees should be lower. Not only will these students be trained practically in our workshops, also they will manufacture products through their courses for selling purposes for KVTC. After completing the one year course, students get a KVTC certificate and they will get guidance to set up their own business. The idea is also to set up KVTC workshops in surrounding villages.
For the already running courses under VETA we want to make Electrical Installation, Masonry and Bricklaying and Motor Vehicle suitable for the one year course. For January 2018 the plan is to add; Carpentry & Joinery and Welding.
Following this idea KVTC needs to build 3 workshops located near the entrance: Motor Vehicle, Welding and Carpentry & Joinery. These should be simple workshop buildings not costing more than 15 million in total. All other investments necessary especially basic machinery should have the purpose to train students and generate money for the school.
Other benefits coming with this plan:
1 funding will become easier for all parties (Tanzania, Holland and local) because of functionality, serving our target group and being in compliance with KVTC’s aims
2 it will help Kibosho people to see that KVTC is there to serve them and bring prosperity to the community
3 input and effort to realize this plan is short term
4 reasonable and realistic chance to become sustainable as a school
MAP FOR EXPENDITURES
KVTC is growing in numbers of students. Late 2016 the plan was to finish the first floor meaning the part for the boy’s dormitory (half of the 1st floor). Recently we have learned that the quotation for that part will go up to 60 million.
Since there is no funding coming in from Tanzanian side and also efforts to involve the government did not have results yet and we cannot expect that kind of money coming in from Holland for finishing solely the dormitory part, we started to rethink.
Spending 60 million only to finish the dormitory part while we have a maximum capacity for 40 boarding students boys where they are right now (Alfa house or Principal house by origin), leads us to the conclusion that KVTC has the capacity to house 40 students boys boarding. We will call in a stop for boarding boys before nr 41 is reporting. Concerning the first floor it would be better for the near future (2018) to start finishing classrooms there one by one.
In light of the future map for KVTC, we came to different views to where to use funds. First of all we need to fix our basic facilities electricity and water supply and start constructing 3 simple workshops in and before the end of 2017.
Electricity or solar is needed on the entire compound. Lacking is electricity/ solar for dormitories boys (1) and girls (2) and the cow house (security). Lacking is electricity near the entrance where we plan the 3 workshops. From there electricity should be extended to the chicken house to be able to construct an incubator. Tanesco is constructing a new transformer now on Som Som side where this power should come from.
Water -other than drinking water coming from the water company-, is needed through a borehole, storage tanks up the roof and in grounded including water pipes/ lines/ dripping system for distribution. For irrigation purposes, washing, cleaning and storage for the dry season.
Financing 3 workshops for Motor Vehicle, Welding and Carpentry & Joinery: not more than 15 million.
Other important and necessary expenditures in 2017 are:
Paying debts to 3 teachers: 15 million.
Paying higher salaries and benefits from of May 2017: included but short in the estimated budget for 2017.
Start up KVTC’s driving School: 5 million investment for a second hand car, also to be used as replacement for the Pajero.
Purchase of basic machinery for welding, carpentry, masonry, motor vehicle.
